Field Evaluation: MADE Project

Project Summary

Final Report (PDF) July 2003

The NAHB Research Center completed a series of studies investigating the affordable housing market and how it is being served by the homebuilding industry. Builders who were successfully serving the entry-level market were canvassed and a guidebook detailing these findings was assembled. The Builder's Guide to Marketable, Affordable, Durable, Entry-level Homes To Last (MADE Guide) captures some of the approaches to delivering well-built, low maintenance, affordable homes.

As a follow up effort to the Guide the NAHB Research Center constructed a project employing its concepts. With planning support provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Housing Endowment (NHE), construction of the MADE project was completed in 2002.

See the project profile for construction photos and status.
