SAN FRANCISCO — Developers, designers and contractors can get a first-hand look at innovations profiled by the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) during a “Talk and Tour” on Dec. 8 at the Folsom/Dore Apartments project. Hosted by the affordable housing developer Citizens Housing Corporation (CHC) in partnership with PATH, the tour features items from PATH’s Technology Inventory, including a highly-efficient HVAC system, fly-ash concrete, construction waste management, low-or-no-VOC paints, no-urea-formaldehyde cabinets, fiber-cement siding, compact-fluorescent lighting, and photovoltaic roof panels that provide the complex’s common space lighting. The Folsom/Dore Apartment’s energy use is calculated to be 20 percent less than California’s Title 24 standards.

The Folsom/Dore Apartments project is a four- and five-story complex located in the city’s South of Market Neighborhood, an area comprised of residential, commercial, and light industrial uses. The site was selected due to its proximity to public transportation, which allows parking to be decreased by 70 percent. Additionally, City Carshare, a fuel-efficient vehicles rental service for residents and community members, utilizes four of the parking spaces.
CHC, along with its partners PATH, the City of San Francisco, the Arc San Francisco and Episcopal Community Services, is developing 98 units of affordable housing for low- and very low-income residents. PATH is providing technical assistance and recommendations including energy-efficient and low impact development practices.
The Folsom/Dore Apartment project is funded through the State of California Multifamily Housing Program, tax credits, tax-exempt bonds credit-enhanced by Citibank, the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant, and local gap financing provided by the Mayor’s Office of Housing in San Francisco.
