In January 2005, PATH selected Brighton Construction of Omaha, Nebraska, to build the first PATH Concept Home.
The pervious alley for the Liberty Village project was set in May 2006.Under the direction of company president Fernando Pages-Ruiz, Brighton Construction has become a leader in building affordable housing in Nebraska and Iowa. Pages-Ruiz’s specialty is designing affordable homes that match the cultural preferences of different ethnic groups.
The Concept Home was built in an existing neighborhood in Omaha overlooking the Creighton University campus. Flexible, durable, and efficient, the Concept Home incorporates some of the industry’s most innovative ideas in building design and construction. Click for exciting video coverage of the Concept Home.In addition to the Concept Home, Pages Ruiz worked with PATH to evaluate building technologies and techniques at Liberty Village in Lincoln, Nebraska. These ENERGY STAR qualified, two-story homes and townhouses were built with “green” practices that significantly reduce both water and energy use. Unveiled in June 2007, this “Neighborhood of the Future” features culturally sensitive designs that appeal to a large multicultural population. PATH also featured Pages-Ruiz’s work with advanced framing in its 2006 case study series.
Pages-Ruiz founded Brighton Construction in 1985, and now builds about 50 homes a year, selling for $105,000 to $130,000. He is the author of Building an Affordable House: Trade Secrets to High-Value, Low-Cost Construction and a regular contributor to Fine Homebuilding Magazine.
